Owner and Winegrower: Ben Renshaw
Ben launched his career in the Loudoun County wine industry in 1998, working in various positions for a number of wineries. In 2005 he established Furnace Mountain Vineyards, LLC, which began as a custom vineyard management and vineyard installation company with two clients. As it grew, vineyard management came to include winemaking for one client in 2006, and a year later Ben began making his own wine under the 8 Chains North label. In 2010, the business found a permanent home in a renovated barn in Waterford, Virginia, which houses a tasting room, banquet room, and production room and overlooks the Waterford Vineyard.
Ben is a self-described “dirt farmer” and loves nothing more than tending to his vines. His tireless work in the field makes the critical difference in the cellar, where his style can best be described as “hands-off.” His careful attention to viticulture reveals itself in our Old-World-style wines—rich, dry reds with supple tannins, and crisp, dry whites with balanced acidity.

Events Manager: Kim Sullivan
Kim is an original Jersey Girl who came to Virginia in the summer of 2011 via Florida, where she was a practicing RN, wife, mother, and grandmother of six. Listening to her father-in-law discuss the beauty of wine during Sunday family dinners piqued her interest, and thus began a life-long passion for the vino. Kim has worked in the Northern Virginia Wine industry since 2012 and brings a wealth of wedding, corporate and private party experience to 8 Chains North. As our Events Manager, she works her magic with brides and grooms to facilitate their weddings, and also arranges corporate and team building events, holiday parties, and private parties/celebrations.
