Vineyard & Winemaker Assistant

The Vineyard and Winemaker Assistant (VWA) is an integral part of 8 Chains North’s wine production process. The VWA reports directly to and works under the supervision of the Chief Winemaker and Viticulturist (Winegrower) and is responsible for the overall organization and cleanliness of the winery’s production areas and vineyard equipment from spring plantings to fall harvest, and through winter/spring bottling.

During harvest, the VWA will help process fruit and maintain the cleanliness of harvest equipment, the production room, and crush pad. In addition, s/he will assist the winegrower in taking fruit through the fermentation and aging process. The VWA will aid the Winegrower and vineyard contractors to ensure the vineyard is in overall excellent health. Moreover, s/he will have the primary responsibility for chemical applications to address pest and disease pressures. Compensation: Salary

WINERY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

GENERAL:

  • Rack wine and top barrels
  • Clean barrels and tanks
  • Clean pumps and hoses
  • General winery/production room “health” and sanitation

HARVEST:

  • Clean and set up production equipment daily
  • Process fruit
  • Gas tanks and totes
  • Conduct punch downs twice per day

BOTTLING:

  • Filter wine
  • Take and send wine samples to laboratory for analysis
  • Organize supplies for bottling day, assist mobile bottler and winegrower with bottling process, and organize and store case goods

VINEYARD DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Spray Vineyard(s): VWA will have VDACS Pesticide Applicator’s License or complete licensure requirements. Under Winegrower’s supervision, VWA will mix chemicals, and spray vineyard(s) in a timely fashion and as necessary throughout the season
  • Clean tractor, sprayer, and other relevant equipment
  • Assist with scouting
  • Other duties as assigned by Winegrower or Owner
  • Experience in a vineyard or winery environment preferred
  • Viticulture or viniculture education is desirable
  • Valid driver’s license with the ability to drive a forklift and tractor
  • Will be required to have VDACS Pesticide Applicator’s License
  • Conversational or fluent Spanish a plus
  • This agricultural position often requires long and/or irregular hours due to vineyard management and winemaking seasonality
  • Legally able to work in the U.S.

  • Must be able to lift 50+ lbs. and work barrels

Tasting Room Associate

8 Chains North seeks a part-time, year-round Tasting Room Associate. Firstly, we are an established winery that prides itself on its Old World-style wines. The winery atmosphere is friendly, casual, and inviting. Therefore, we are looking for someone outgoing who truly enjoys interacting with guests. Also, the candidate should be team oriented, hospitality focused, and want to learn about wine—and have a great time at work. Compensation: Hourly wage plus tips.

  • Professionally and enthusiastically represent the company and brand
  • Greet and interact with customers and manage traffic flow in the winery
  • Pour tastings and educate customers about the wine
  • Serve wine and food throughout the Tasting Room area, indoors and outdoors
  • Perform opening and closing duties per defined SOPs, including but not limited to: stocking wine, bussing tables, cleaning glassware, and disposing of trash and recycling
  • Keep the Tasting Room clean, organized and functional
  • Work special 8CN and private functions as needed
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state and local laws, maintaining accurate inventory counts and accurate reporting of sales activities
  • In addition, other duties as assigned by Tasting Room Management Team
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Able to work weekends, evening events, and some holidays
  • Able to stand for extended periods of time
  • Winery Tasting Room experience preferred, but not required
  • Professional demeanor and appearance
  • Must love interacting with people and have strong customer service skills
  • Must be detail-oriented, well organized in work habits
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with POS programs and MS Office programs
  • In addition, social media experience and design skills are a plus
